StudyArcade vs Kahoot
Kahoot built its name on live, host-led classroom quizzes: one person runs the game on a shared screen, everyone else joins with a PIN and answers from their own device. StudyArcade is built for solo study: no host, no live session, just 12+ game types generated from your own notes whenever you want to study.
"StudyArcade is the better pick for solo studying: it's free, works any time with no host or live session, and includes 12+ game types built from your own notes. Kahoot is the better pick if you need a live, host-led multiplayer quiz for a classroom or group -- its solo study tools (Kahoot!+ Study) start at $36/year."

Live quizzes vs solo study games
Kahoot’s core product is a live, host-led quiz. A teacher or host displays questions on a shared screen and starts the game; players join with a PIN and answer in real time from their own device. That format works well for a classroom or a group activity, but it requires a host, a live session, and other players to show up at the same time. StudyArcade skips all of that. You open the app by yourself, turn your notes into 12+ game types such as Word Hunt, Memory Match, and Mini Crossword, and play whenever you actually want to study, alone.
Kahoot’s separate study product
Kahoot now sells a solo-focused product called Kahoot!+ Study, aimed at students who want to study independently instead of joining a live group session. It includes AI-generated flashcards and practice sets, but it sits behind a paywall: plans start at $36 per year on the Bronze tier and go up to $144 per year on the Gold tier for AI-assisted practice tests and the full self-study feature set. Kahoot’s completely free tier, called Kahoot! Go, is limited to flashcards, goal setting, and sessions capped at 10 participants. StudyArcade’s 12+ game types and AI note-to-game generation are free with no participant cap and no separate paid tier for the core features.
Account and setup
Hosting a Kahoot, or using any Kahoot!+ Study feature, requires creating a free Kahoot account. A player joining a live Kahoot as a guest can skip the account with a game PIN, but that shortcut only applies to the classic live-quiz format, not the solo study tools. StudyArcade does not require an account for any part of the app. Paste your notes or type a topic and the AI builds a study game immediately, with nothing to sign up for.
Platform and offline access
Kahoot is available on iOS, Android, and the web, which gives it broader platform coverage than StudyArcade, which is currently iPhone only. Kahoot also offers offline study, but only on its paid Kahoot!+ Study plans. StudyArcade works offline once your study games are generated, at no extra cost and with no subscription required.
Which one fits?
Choose StudyArcade if...
iPhone students who study alone and want an always-available session, anyone who wants AI to turn their own notes into study games for free, and budget-conscious learners who do not want a Kahoot!+ Study subscription.
Choose Kahoot if...
Teachers and group leaders running a live, host-led quiz in a classroom or meeting, and students who specifically want Kahoot’s Study plans (flashcards, AI-generated practice tests) and do not mind paying starting at $36/year.
The verdict
If you need to run a live quiz for a classroom, club, or team meeting, Kahoot is still the standard tool for that job, and its free tier covers small groups. If you are studying by yourself and want to turn your own notes into games without paying for Kahoot!+ Study or waiting on a host to start a session, StudyArcade gives you the same active-recall benefit for free. Some students use both: Kahoot for group review sessions in class, StudyArcade for solo practice at home.
Questions
Is StudyArcade a Kahoot alternative?
For solo studying, yes. StudyArcade replaces the need for a live host and other players with 12+ single-player game types built from your own notes. It does not replace Kahoot’s live, host-led classroom format, which solves a different problem.
Do I need a host or other players to use StudyArcade?
No. Every game in StudyArcade is built for solo play. You do not need a host, a live session, or classmates to join before you can start.
Is Kahoot free?
Kahoot’s classic live-quiz format is free to host for up to 10 players. Its solo study product, Kahoot!+ Study, is a separate paid subscription starting at $36 per year on the Bronze plan.
Is StudyArcade free?
Yes. Free to download on iPhone with no account required. All 12+ game types and AI note-to-game generation are included at no cost.
Which is better for exam prep by yourself?
StudyArcade, if you are studying alone. It is built entirely around solo, AI-generated game sessions. Kahoot has a solo study option too through Kahoot!+ Study, but it sits behind a paid plan, while StudyArcade’s core game types are free.
Can I use Kahoot and StudyArcade together?
Yes. Some students use Kahoot in class for live group review and StudyArcade on their own for daily solo practice.
