Questions

Frequently asked

Are these German games free?

Yes. Every game runs in your browser with no sign-up, no download, and no account.

What do the games cover?

Noun gender (der, die or das), spelling from the English, and word matching, across two sets of everyday nouns: starter and everyday.

Are these A1 or A2 word lists?

No, and any site claiming a free CEFR list is guessing. The Goethe-Institut word lists are copyrighted and cannot be reproduced, so these are hand-picked everyday nouns grouped by how early you tend to meet them.

Why is noun gender worth a whole game?

Because there is no reliable rule for most German nouns, so it comes down to recall, and recall improves from being asked rather than from being shown. Sorting a noun into der, die or das is the same decision you make when you speak.

Noun genders and plurals from German Wiktionary via the german-nouns dataset (CC BY-SA 4.0). These sets are hand-picked everyday nouns, not official CEFR word lists: the Goethe-Institut lists are copyrighted and cannot be reproduced.
